Lilly Wilson is a current sophomore at St. Mary’s Academy who is both a writer and an artist. Her ceramic piece “Sea Plate,” displayed above, was featured in the 2021-2022 issue of Escribe Maria. She told Escribe Maria about the significance of her design: “The Sea Plate depicts a series of little waves running across a white, square platter. This piece represents my strong love and connection to the beach, and specifically my grandparents’ house on the coast of Neskowin. This little house has been in our family for four generations and has hosted many important events in my family’s history. The amount of memories this special place holds is endless, and hopefully there are many more to come in the future.”

Throughout Wilson’s entire life, she has felt “a strong love and respect for art.” She emphasizes the significant role it has played throughout her life, noting that she had opportunities to explore her creativity whether “creating cards for [her] friends’ birthdays, making shapes out of Play-Doh, or scribbling little images in the corners of [her] paper.” Wilson explains, “Most of my pieces are inspired by my passions and hobbies, which are what motivate me and give me purpose. My family is also a big source of inspiration. I haven’t done much art outside of St. Mary’s, but the classes here have definitely given me a stronger appreciation for it. I hope to expand my knowledge and experience of art in the future!”
