Artist Feature: Sofia Huitron / Art / Class of 2023

Sofia Huitron is a senior at St. Mary's Academy and an artist nationally recognized for her talent. Her piece "Marcher Aux Puces" was featured in the 2021-2022 issue of Escribe Maria. Huitron describes her creative process as based in "instinct and gut reactions, especially in photography." She says, "I don’t like to plan or think through every little detail before creating, though it is sometimes valuable depending on the medium." In addition to possessing a high degree of artistic prowess, Huitron is also a writer.
Her art has won the Scholastic American Visions award, the Scholastic National Gold Medal, four Scholastic Gold Keys, and two Scholastic Silver Keys.
